many paths… many stories
I’ve spent the last three decades in the corporate world, one that gave me life lessons, friendships, and adventures I couldn’t have imagined even as a writer of fiction. A few times, I hit endings, turned around and went down another street in the same neighborhood. Because it was what I knew.
This time, I’ve stepped away from that road altogether.
When I hit the end on this last stretch, a peace settled into my mind and body. I felt a glimpse of resonance pulling me towards a different ending. All I had to do was turn around.
Over the last few years, creating leadership development programs at my former company, I started using craft lessons from fiction to illuminate how leaders can manage transitions, decisions, and change, just as I was using them to ready stories for submission.
Life is a story. Whether it’s work-life, or life-life.
In my Substack—Unfolding Roadmap—I share reflections that help me (and maybe some of you) understand better our human condition. And, specifically on a topic that I’ve wrestled with most of my life: the journey IS the destination.
In a world focused on outcomes—IPO, C-suite title, marriage, children, college admission, publication—it’s hard to remember that how we get there is pretty interesting. It can be tortuous and joyous, and how much torture or joy is up to each of us to decide. We write our stories.
The Substack explores the unfolding roadmap of my life and others’. I want to see what happens on this non-linear journey called life. I’m excited about what we’ll find. If you’d like to read, please hit the link below.
